winter squash harvest

There’s just something about allotments, once you have the bug it never really leaves you. The charm and character of the sheds dotted around, the soothing sound of trains whizzing along the track. The general chit-chat weather grumbles, and being around people who, like me, have a deep need for being at one with the seasons and growing food from a slice of land.

pumpkins and bunting

Hello I’m Karen, thank you for the interest in my blog! The aim of this blog is to document my growing year down on my allotment and to share the ups and downs of allotment life. I started my allotment journey in April 2011, Plot 33 is my second allotment and I took it on in March 2018. I must warn you, I’m a little bit obsessed with growing pumpkins and winter squash!

My other interests (apart from my lovely family) include photography, arts and crafts, country walks with my dog, baking, chicken keeping, foraging and reading. I also write a grow your own and chicken keeping blog http://www.thegardensmallholder.com
